1_Brief
When we started working with Mobileye in 2008 they came to us to develop their new display for collision avoidance systems. The main challenges were reducing the size of their product to the minimum, and improving icons homogeneity. Other problems to solve were: poor visibility under extreme sun conditions, to create a robust mechanism that allow the user to install the display in multiple positions.
2_Inspiration
We maintained the well known graphic design language to which drivers are used to seeing every day. High contrasted shapes and colors for an easy and fast recognition.
3_Flexible mount
We designed a simple yet robust mechanism that allows the device to be installed in multiple places of the dashboard or windshield, keeping the display in the right position. The mechanism as well as the entire system complies with all requested automotive standards.
4_User interface
Regarding the graphics, the idea was to use a language that the driver was familiar with, like the traffic signs. To customize all the functions of the device we placed 3 buttons on the top ( mode, + and -). These 3 buttons are easy to use and they have a very nice feel. To solve the problem of icons visibility; we combined an opaque lens with a LED hi-bright technology. This allow us to maximize icons size in a rounded area, and maintain the iconic circle shape.
