The challenge

The challenge was to turn CardiacSense’s medical technology into a wearable product that elderly people could use with confidence. The watch needed to combine ease of use with the mechanical constraints of a compact medical device, water resistance and repeatable production. The development also had to connect manufacturing in China with assembly at CardiacSense in Israel.

Engineering the medical watch

TRIM developed and engineered the CardiacSense medical watch through several iterations of functional prototypes, refining the design and mechanics for production.

The biggest challenge was integrating the artifact sensor without compromising the watch’s compact size or sealing. We developed a single-piece bottom cover combining an overmolded liquid silicone rubber (LSR) membrane and transparent windows. This integrated construction helped achieve IP68 water resistance.

Extensive material research focused on finding a medical-grade material that would allow the membrane to retain its shape over years of use while meeting the project’s FDA requirements.

Packaging and out-of-box experience

We helped develop the packaging and out-of-box experience for the CardiacSense medical watch, considering how users encounter the product for the first time. The clean, simple presentation makes the watch the hero, using the cradle as part of the box to hold and display it.

The Results

From prototypes to production

TRIM developed and engineered the medical watch through multiple functional prototypes, refining its design and mechanics for production.

Supporting FDA clearance

Our work on the watch’s integrated construction, sealing and material selection supported CardiacSense’s development toward regulatory clearance. CardiacSense received FDA 510(k) clearances in 2023 and 2024.

Into real-world use

The watch was used in a remote-monitoring pilot at KBC Rijeka in Croatia as part of the European HealthChain project.
